PETROLEUM MINISTER REVIEWS NATURAL GAS DEMAND-SUPPLY POSITION OF THE COUNTRY
The Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar has directed to ensure uninterrupted gas supplies to domesticand commercial consumers.Syed Naveed Qamar was chairing a meeting of the senior officers of the Ministry of Petroleum, MDs of SNGPL, SSGC and OGDCL to review the natural gas demand and supply position of the country.In the meeting it was decided that all contractual committments must be met. It was also decided that where possible, industrial consumers will be encouraged to use alternate fuels.
Syed Naveed Qamar directed all the concerned officers to chalk out a well coordinated winter gas load management program and emphasized to take all the stakeholders on board. He further directed to make all out efforts to optimize gas production from the existing and potential sources. The meeting was part of the process to finalize Ministry’s
recommendations for effective management of gas load to be placed before ECC of the Cabinet in its forthcoming meeting. The gas production of the country during winter is projected as over 4000 MMCFD while demand projections are around 5000 MMCFD during peak winter period. Increase in demand is mainly due to addition of 5 new power plants with gas requirement of 202 MMCFD,one new fertilizer plant with gas requirement of 100 MMCFD and normal expansion of gas companies.
